MESSAGE

     I am happy to learn that the Indian Meteorological Society, Chennai   Chapter in collaboration  with Regional Meteorological Centre,  Chennai and  World Wide Fund for Nature-India, Tamilnadu state is conducting a one day seminar on "Climate Change" on 30th October 2007 at Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai. I am also pleased to note that this seminar is being arranged for the benefit of school students  with the objective of bringing  awareness about the Climate change, its possible impacts and adaptation strategies. I am also pleased to know that it will be interactive session where the students will be given the opportunities to express their views on climate change issues and improve their knowledge in the subject.  The specialists  will deliver lectures on the science of Meteorology with particular  reference to climate change and its impact on environment and society.  The event  is indeed at the most crucial time  as  tremendous importance has been attached to the issue  of climate change   with recent award of ‘’Noble Peace Prize 2007” to Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change.

    I am sure that this effort will go a long way is educating  the community in general and the  students in particular.

    I extend my good wishes for the success of the seminar..

MESSAGE

There is now broad consensus in the scientific community that global warming has become a reality and needs urgent appropriate mitigation and adaptation strategies to cope up with the threat.  I am happy to know that the Indian Meteorological Society (Chennai Chapter) and  Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai  are  jointly conducting a one day seminar on "Climate Change" on 30th October 2007 at Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, which is co-sponsored by  World Wide Fund for Nature-India, Tamilnadu

           This seminar is being arranged as a part of the mandate of the society to  popularize the   science of  meteorology and to increase awareness among different sections of the Society.  Participation of students in this seminar will enhance their ability to appreciate climate change in the right perspective and will pave a  path  for better understanding  of  these issues  and adopt sustainable coping strategies for protecting the environment.  The effort is at most appropriate time  coinciding with award of f ’Noble Peace Prize 2007” to Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change.
